NOCTURNAL ENURESIS IN CHILDREN

WHAT IS NOCTURNAL ENURESIS?
Nocturnal enuresis is the wetting of the bed at night and the phenomenon is common in young children . By the age of four, most children can control their bladder during the day. But it may take longer to control their bladder during sleep.
Some children do not stop bedwetting at night until 5-7 years old. Nocturnal enuresis is more common in boys than in girls.
Most children stop nocturnal enuresis alone and no treatment is needed. But if you are worried or have questions about your child's bedwetting, talk with his doctor.

WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE CAUSES?
Enuresis is more likely to occur when:

  • The muscles of the urinary bladder child grow more slowly than usual.
  • The child's bladder can hold less than the normal amount of urine.
  • The child's body produces a lot of urine.

Most often, the bedwetting is not due to a medical or emotional problem . In some cases, however, it is. Your doctor should be able to tell if your child's bedwetting is caused by a medical problem.

WHAT BEHAVIORALTREATMENT IS THERE?
You can try different methods at home to stop bedwetting on your child.

  • Put your child to urinate before going to sleep. Remind it to wake up to use the toilet when needed.
  • Put a night light in the room and the bathroom, so your child can easily find the toilet.
  • Stop using diapers or training pants at home, especially if your child is older than 8 years.
  • Put your child to help with the cleaning in the morning. For example, you may ask them to draw the liquid sheets from the bed or to help with the laundry.
  • Keep a chart the progress of your child and reward him when it stays dry. You must be agreed with the child the kind of reward in advance.
  • Make sure that the child receives fluids throughout the day and not immediately before going to bed.
  • Use an alarm for nocturnal enuresis . The alarms work best in children aged 7 years and older. Talk to your doctor about the type of alarm that is best for your child and how to use it.
