PHIMOSIS-CIRCUMCISSION

WHAT IS PHIMOSIS?
Phimosis is the failure of the disclosure of the glans of the penis by pulling the foreskin.

WHO SUFFERS FROM THIS CONDITION AND WHY?
Phimosis may involve:

  1. The disease occurs in children from birth.
  2. In adults phimosis occurs after chronic inflammation commonly in people with diabetes.

MY CHILD HAS PHIMOSIS. WHAT SHALL I DO?
In children with phimosis surgery is not recommended before the age of 2 years because before this age is very frequent to have an automatic cure of the disease. Indications for operation before the age of 2 years are recurrent UTIs or balanoposthitis.
In contrast to adults ,infants respond well to steroid ointments.
If the child after two years old is diagnosed with phimosis then circumcision is appropriate.

WHAT IS CIRCUMCISSION?
Circumcision is a simple surgery, minimally invasive for treating phimosis, removing the excess part of the foreskin that covers the glans.
In Adults it is performed under local anesthesia while in children general anesthesia is required.
No hospitalization is required, only a few hours stay in the clinic.
The complications of the method are very rare.
